So…the rejection emails continue to roll in, but I will continue down the path of querying and working on a new story. One day, maybe I will become a published author but am content to keep working at it. I thought I’d share with you a summary of UGLY; the manuscript I am out beating on doors about. I kinda feel like the Big Bad Wolf, you know all huffing and puffing but not blowing the brick house down:)
Anyway, I’d love to hear what you guys think about my story so here it is…
Ugly is a relative term. Seventeen year-old Vanessa perceives herself as ugly; especially since her former friend has screamed that name at her for two years. Joy’s life has been ugly ever since her sister died, so she takes it upon herself to make everyone else’s life miserable. Travis has always been the bad-boy, the big disappointment. Those around him assume his character is ugly.
Then there are the secrets. Secrets that are ugly. Everyone has them, some bigger than others and Vanessa’s are huge. Her parents are so busy creating the appearance of being perfect, that they ignore Vanessa. The pain she feels from being ignored by her parents, bullied by Joy, and friendless causes her to numb herself by drinking. Heavily. Recklessly. Until one day her dreams come true. Adam, her secret crush, makes a move–wants to be with her. Deal is, their relationship must remain a secret. Vanessa becomes part of a secret and twisted love triangle. One that causes her already lonely world to spin out of control.
One night, terribly alone and drunk, Vanessa meets a mysterious boot-wearing boy. Travis. It’s in him that she finds an unlikely friend. One who teaches her just how worth it she is. The bad-boy who everyone thinks is a waste of time, but Vanessa gets the feeling that he’s more than that. He is her savior. He is the one she turns to when she falls victim to a sexual assault. An assault that is captured on video. Shared with everyone at school. All her fault. Ugly.
Grrr argg! I know, I haven’t been posting much lately and I am quite upset with myself for it but I do have some great
excuses reasons for being absent. Very simply I have been very busy with my kids. Seeing that this is summer, I have been carting my family around to the pool, friend’s houses, movies, drive-in, and to the local amusement park. Today, I decided it was time to get back on the horse.
Let me just say that I feel very much a writer today. I have begun a rejection file on my computer! Whoot! I know that for most people this is a complete bummer, but for me it is still very exciting. I mean, I have put myself out there and someone who is beyond God-like in my eyes has read it. I did that. I sent MY work out. Someone said “no,” but they took time to read what I wrote and the world didn’t come to an apocalyptical end! There are no flesh-eating zombies to contend with here and no major depression.
My daughter actually laughed at me the day I received my first rejection email. She told me that she couldn’t believe I seemed so happy to be rejected. I actually didn’t feel rejected, or hated, or stupid, or like the worst writer in the world. I felt relief to get that first one over with. And just to be clear…I think it was the nicest rejection letter a writer could ever get!!
Now the plan is to continue to put my story out into the world and see if someone has as much faith in it as I do. I know that this will take a special someone and it takes time to find that one. I have all the time in the world, although I will admit that I am ready now! I also have been working on another manuscript; one that I am planning and plotting before writing. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I don’t normally post a book review on my home page, but I absolutely HAD to share this with everyone…I just read the most incredible book!!! I can’t even begin to explain just how much I loved Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry. How did I even get my hands on this book? Well, I was lucky enough to be chosen for an ARC book tour as a reviewer via DAC Book Tours.
I don’t want to give away too much of the story, plus I don’t normally write really long reviews anyway, but I will tell you that the story of Echo and Noah moved me. It moved me so deeply that I found myself in tears multiple times as I was reading. The heartbreak that Noah and Echo feel is overwhelming. The love that they feel for each other is intense. Together they can save themselves.
For those of you looking for a new character to crush on…well you have one in Noah!
“I won’t tell anyone, Echo. I promise.” Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins? His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. “You didn’t do that-did you? It was done to you?” No one ever asked that question. They stared. They whispered. They laughed. But they never asked.
So wrong for each other…and yet so right.
No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with “freaky” scars on her arms. Even Echo can’t remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo’s world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she’ll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.
